Wine Club
Formed in 2011, the Oakridge Wine Club is run by Paul Hunt and Tony Salmon and meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the back room of the Butchers Arms pub in Oakridge to taste, learn about, appreciate and score a mix of red and white wines.
We set the themes around 6 months in advance and are always happy to include ideas from the membership.
Mostly the evenings are presented by Paul and Tony but other members occasionally present the evening. We will sometimes invite an outside speaker, for example a local wine merchant or vineyard, but there is never a “hard sell” just the chance to try something different and learn something new. We have a meal at the Christmas meeting and plan to have a trip in lieu of one of the summer meetings.  We do not normally meet in August.
Simple nibbles of cheese and biscuits are provided but occasionally something more elaborate will be provided to fit in with the theme for the evening.
Membership
The joining fee is £10.00; this fee is used to cover the costs of club equipment; bowls for nibbles, wine pourers, “spit buckets” for tasters to pour their excess wine into and a stock of glasses for guests to use.
The monthly cost is £10.00; £8.00 of this is spent on wine and nibbles £2.00 is paid to the pub as corkage. You will need to purchase a box of tasting glasses from the Club, cost around £10.00.
Contact Us
Please contact Julie Hughes on 01285 760177 or mail@jmhughes.plus.com  or Jill on 07816 955362; either of whom will be pleased to answer any questions.  We normally suggest that you come along as a guest the first time to see if you like it, the club can lend you some glasses for the evening.  Then if you do enjoy it, you can pay your joining fee, buy some glasses and get tasting!
